FORMER Nigeria captain Olumide Oyedeji announced on Monday that he would stand for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) in elections scheduled for 15 October.
Through the social media account of the Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation, the former NBA player defined his campaign around three elements: to rebuild, reunite and reposition basketball in the West African nation.
“It is a call to service, a call to rebuild. Reunite and to reposition Nigerian basketball for long-lasting success,” said Oyedeji at his press conference.
Oyedeji, an AfroBasket champion with Nigeria in 2015, played at the 2012 London Olympics and the 1999 FIBA World Cup, and has contributed to grassroots through his foundation, which has helped contribute to the education of his country’s youth; he also owns the local club Hoops N’ Read.
