The Big Tip Off
The Big Tip Off is an online media platform dedicated to basketball content creation.
Our mission is to tell impact stories of sporting personalities, with a specific focus on basketball on and from the African continent. Through written, photographic, and video content we give our readers different insights into basketball.
We are here to feature the athletes, the referees, the coaches, the managers, the owners, the investors, the basketball media personalities, and the many other roles that make the game we love. We are here to tell the stories of those who shape basketball in and from Africa.
Since 2018 when we produced our first content, we have grown in leaps and adapted to different situations. In 2020/2021, with the advent of Covid-19, we delivered an alternative to keeping connected with basketball content. Basketball personalities contributed articles about their love for the game and how they were preparing for a post-Covid-19 world.
We have since covered the Basketball Africa League qualifiers, the Basketball Africa League tournaments, and the AfroBasket qualifiers. Our content has been used as a source of information by ESPN and FIBA, an indication of the BTO’s reach.
We use our social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to interact with the basketball community.
The Founder and Curator
Our Founder and Curator, Manyehlisa Lehohla has over 10 years of experience as a sports journalist with extensive sports knowledge.
In this role, he covered the Basketball National League, the Premier Soccer League, and the Currie Cup and interviewed prominent sports personalities with a focus on South Africa.
In addition, he has previously volunteered as a Marketing Director of the Tshwane Basketball Association. Manyehlisa contributes content for FIBA Africa as a freelance writer.
In his entire journalistic career, Manyehlisa’s vision has always been to be a change agent by advancing the agenda of basketball in the media space, and with a focus on the African continent.
The Big Tip Off was born out of this desire. It brings together his comprehensive skills-set in digital brand strategy, photography, desktop publishing, writing, editing, social media engagement, and videography.
