BASKETBALL South Africa issued a statement in the late hours of Thursday night announcing that federation president Sanele Mthiyane has opened a case of falsification and forgery against the Basketball National League (BNL).
In a social media post Mthiyane can be seen at a police station in KwaDukuza in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal where he opened the case. The move by BSA comes after the BNL announced, last that their league champions Soweto Panthers were approved by FIBA Africa to participate in the upcoming Road to BAL 2027 qualifiers.
Initially the Johannesburg Giants meant to represent South Africa after winning the Basketball South Africa National Club Championship over a week ago, but a spanner was thrown in the works with the BNL announcement.
BSA has since challenged matter, with the licensing, although a separate matter, it has surfaced in what has been a long standing fued between the two entities.
