Petro clinch Super Taca title

ANGOLA club Petro de Luanda won the 34th edition of the Super Taca de Angola on Saturday, beating rivals Grupo Desportivo Interclube 81-64 at the Acacias Rubras Arena in the coastal town of Benguela.

Energetic small-forward Glofate Buimba led Os Petroleos with 18 points on Saturday night, shooting 5/8 inside the arc and 2/3 from beyond the arc. Buimba also grabbed five rebounds. The game’s MVP, Eduardo Simao, delivered a sterling performance with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, with an efficiency of 21.

Two other Petro players,  combo guard Gerson Lukeny and forward Cleusio Castro, scored 10 points. The duo were effective in other facets of the game; Lukeny grabbed five rebounds and five assists, while Castro crashed eight boards in a performance that highlighted the team’s core.

It’s a great start for Petro, who have seen players like Childe Dundao and Aboubakar Gakou move on, and new signings Babatunde Olumuyiwa, Palancas Negras player Dimitri Maconda and Canadian player Whazo Panzo join the team.

InterClube were led in scoring by Luís José (16 points and 10 rebounds) and Timóteo Txinalua (14 points, six rebounds and five steals).
